2014 NFL mock draft: Jadeveon Clowney to Jacksonville Jaguars at No. 3

The Jaguars are rebuilding, but instead of talking themselves into a franchise quarterback here, they're taking the best defender available for the Gus Bradley system.

In this here 2014 NFL mock draft, wherein SB Nation's NFL bloggers make picks for their team, quarterbacks have dominated thus far: Teddy Bridgewater went No. 1 overall to Houston, and St. Louis surprised at No. 2 overall by snagging Johnny Manziel.

Were that to happen when the real bullets start flying (what are the odds?), the Jacksonville Jaguars would have a legitimate shot at taking a third straight quarterback off the board -- but that is not the direction that Alfie Crow of Big Cat Country has chosen for the Jags in our mock.

"With two quarterbacks going off the board in the first two picks it might seem like the Jaguars make it three for three, but with arguably the best player in the draft falling in their lap at No. 3 overall, the Jaguars pick up Jadeveon Clowney. The team addressed defensive line in free agency, but they were all older, veteran-type players. With Clowney, the Jags get an injection of talent and youth on the defensive line as well as heavy rotation. The Jaguars have said they’re not worried about Clowney’s rumored lack of effort, as head coach Gus Bradley thinks the locker room will be good enough to keep him focused and motivated."

Dan Kadar, our beloved NFL Draft analyst, has some thoughts and opinions to share on the Jaguars' mock draft pick of Clowney:

Even though the Jaguars brought back Jason Babin and signed Chris Clemons in free agency, there's absolutely nothing wrong with this choice. Regardless of how a roster is constructed, there is space for a player of Clowney's quality. Even if he plays a limited number of snaps, Clowney will make an impact. His raw talent for a defensive end is off the charts and Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley will know how to get the best out of him.

The run on quarterbacks that we saw in the first two picks came to an abrupt end here, but perhaps a certain Mr. Bortles will appeal to Chris Pokorny and Dawgs By Nature when their No. 4 overall pick comes in at 3 p.m. ET.
