Another year of the SB Nation blogger mock draft is in the books. What started on April 2 – when Teddy Bridgewater was still in discussion for the top pick – is now complete.
SBN’s 32 NFL team sites came together to make the picks from their teams. Then, you graded each and every one of them. Some of the grades hit high marks, though there was just one "A" selection.
Conversely, there were no "F" grades and only two "D+" selections.
Mock Draft
Grade-wise, no team had worse overall grades than the San Diego Chargers. In the first round, Bolts with the Blue went with Ohio State cornerback Bradley Roby, scoring an unfavorable 2.37 average. It got worse in the second with a 1.75 and a "C-" for offensive tackle Ja’Wuan James. The James selection got the worst grade of the second round. The grades for the Minnesota Vikings and Daily Norseman were just about as bad. They went with quarterback Derek Carr in the first round and linebacker Kyle Van Noy in the second. Those picks were a "D+" and a "C+," respectively.
San Francisco graded out well with two picks. At No. 30, Niners Nation went with cornerback Jason Verrett and hit a 3.35. At No. 56, wide receiver Cody Latimer scored a 3.22. San Francisco’s final pick of pass rusher Marcus Smith got just a 2.57.
The pick grades are tabulated completely off reader vote using the classic 4.0 scale.
Unquestionably, the best choice of the second round was from the Chicago Bears at No. 51. Windy City Gridiron landed Notre Dame defensive tackle Louis Nix, which graded out as a "B." Putting the grades aside, Chicago may have added the most impact of all with Nix and safety Calvin Pryor.
The Buffalo Bills also did well with instant-impact choices made by Buffalo Rumblings, getting wide receiver Mike Evans in the first round and safety Jimmie Ward in the second. The grades on Ward are maybe the most questionable from the readers. It scored just a 2.49 for a "C+" even though Ward could immediately step in Jairus Byrd's spot on the roster.
Overall, the riskiest picks made in this mock draft were made by the New Orleans Saints and Canal Street Chronicles. In the first round, the Saints got Florida State wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin, and in the second went with Nebraska cornerback Stanley Jean-Baptiste. Both players are supremely talented and have incredible size for their respective positions. Both, however, are raw and flawed players.
The top players still on board, based on the Mocking the Draft top 200, are Oregon State defensive end Scott Crichton, Florida State defensive back Lamarcus Joyner, LSU wide receiver Jarvis Landry, Vanderbilt cornerback Andre Hal and Virginia Tech cornerback Antone Exum.
The top grades are still from the first round with Big Cat Country’s choice of Jadeveon Clowney at No. 3 getting the highest grade at 3.76. It was the only "A" grade of the draft. The highest second-round grade went to Revenge of the Birds who gave the Arizona Cardinals safety Deone Bucannon. The pick scored a "B+" with a 3.44 average.
