2015 NFL mock draft: Dorial Green-Beckham to Tennessee Titans at No. 33

After taking a risk on Marcus Mariota with the No. 2 overall pick, can our Tennessee Titans blogger afford to take an even bigger risk on Dorial Beckham-Green at No. 33?

When he was explaining his choice of Marcus Mariota with the No. 2 overall pick in our 2015 NFL mock draft, Tennessee Titans blogger Jimmy Morris of Music City Miracles noted that the upside of Mariota outweighed the risk of him potentially not fitting into the system of Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt. He rolled the dice on a player that many consider to be one of the best in the 2015 draft class.

Here we are, at the top of the second round of the very same mock draft, and Mr. Morris is again rolling the dice. This time, the amount of risk is increasing significantly. But the upside, once again, proved too great to pass up on.

33. Titans: Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Oklahoma

Morris: The Titans added Harry Douglas in free agency, but they still need to upgrade the receiver position. DGB is a top-five player in this draft if he doesn’t have any off-field concerns. He does, of course, and that is why he is still available at No. 33, but the risk of taking him at the top of the second round is worth the potential reward. The Titans could be getting a guy who will eventually turn into one of the best receivers in the league.

Dan Kadar, The choice of Green-Beckham is a calculated risk. Green-Beckham may have the most talent of any player in this year’s draft. There are just a lot of issues in the way of harnessing it. From purely a football standpoint, the first one is that he hasn’t played football in a year. When he did, Missouri had to put him in the exact right position to be successful. Then there are the obvious off-field issues that hopefully don’t come up again. But we don’t know. If DGB can get past those issues, the reward could be huge. If not, he could bust out quickly. Because of that, a team like Tennessee might be better suited with Arizona State’s Jaelen Strong, if he happens to be around like he is in this scenario.
