2016 NFL mock draft: Buffalo Bills pick Kamalei Correa

Our final week in the 10th annual SB Nation NFL writers mock draft starts with the Bills adding another player on defense.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

We're down to our final week in the 10th annual SB Nation NFL writers mock draft. We'll be publishing picks through Friday, and there are plenty of good players still available. In the first round, Brian Galliford of Buffalo Rumblings — the godfather of the SBN writers mock — went with Alabama middle linebacker Reggie Ragland. One starter on defense wasn't enough, it seems.

49. Bills: Kamalei Correa, DE/OLB, Boise State

Galliford: The need at linebacker was addressed in Round 1 in the form of Reggie Ragland, which brought our attention back to the defensive line in Round 2 (particularly after passing on Sheldon Rankins and watching him slide another 15 picks). But while Kenny Clark was a tempting proposition, the Bills also have an edge-rush need after parting ways with Mario Williams, and we liked the player (Correa) and the fit (across from Jerry Hughes) too much to pass on him.

Pairing Correa with Hughes would give Rex Ryan something he never really had while in New York — two highly athletic and versatile edge defenders to move around his defense and harass opposing quarterbacks. Buffalo’s pass rush was really bad last season, and the team needs to do what it can to address that early in the draft.

Analysis: The sentiment behind making this pick is on point. The Bills ranked 31st in the league in sacks last season with only 21 and a team-high five came from Williams. It's critical to find a pass rush in this draft for the Bills. What I'm not sure of, however, is Correa's fit in Ryan's scheme. Ryan traditionally likes to have a good five-technique defensive lineman, and Correa is more of an end/linebacker tweener.
