Nick Mangold Fires Back At Wes Welker With Some Subtlety Of His Own

You thought the war of words between the New York Jets and New England Patriots would die down by now, right? After Wes Welker went personal, with a fun-filled foot-in-mouth press conference, Rex Ryan appeared to throw in the towel, refraining from striking back. The battle, it appeared, was over.

New York Jets center Nick Mangold wasn't content to let Welker hog the spotlight, however, taking his own dig at the Patriots and their infamous Spy Gate debacle on Friday night.

Wes Welker is a great player. He's really taken advantage of watching film. If we don't keep a Spy on him, he could really open the Gateless than a minute ago via ÜberTwitter

The intent was nice, but the execution just wasn't there. Welker took his shots at a recent, embarrassing personal event. Spy Gate? We're talking about three years ago now. And on a scale of one to "forgot my pants went I went to work today," it barely even moves the needle of shame.

A golf clap for the effort, but Welker still comes out on top with his sneaky, not-so-subtle press conference performance.
