Eagles Trade Rumors: Asante Samuel Is Available

The Philadelphia Eagles are no strangers to making moves at the NFL trade deadline. This year, the brass in Philadelphia has let it be known that they are willing to deal from their stockpile of starting cornerbacks. Specifically, they are willing to trade veteran corner Asante Samuel. Jason LaCanfora from the NFL Network reported the news earlier today.

Owners of a very disappointing 2-4 record and Super Bowl hopes, the Dream Team might be more concerned about getting an established player as opposed to a haul of draft picks. Most specifically, the Eagles could be looking for help at linebacker or along the defensive line. Opponents have been running unhindered through the Eagles defense this year.

Samuel would be an attractive target for any number of teams. The Detroit Lions could use help in the secondary if they seriously intend to compete with the seemingly unstoppable Green Bay passing attack. Samuel, 30, has just one interception this year. Over the last two seasons, Samuel has 16 interceptions, including a league-best nine in 2009.
