Mel Kiper, Mike Mayock Lead Way On 2011 NFL Mock Draft Grades

The problem with NFL mock drafts is that, when it's all said and done, we don't always go back and look at how draftniks did on their mock drafts. Sure, we can listen to Mel Kiper and Mike Mayock but do they really know what they're talking about?

Real Clear Sports has solved that problem going back and grading the first round of different 12 mock drafts.

The results show there's a reason why ESPN's Mel Kiper and NFL Network's Mike Mayock are considered the two best draft analysts. Each had nine correct picks in the first round which leads the way of all 12 analysts.

ESPN's Todd McShay and Don Banks of SI.com came in second with seven correct picks apiece in the first round. PFT's Evan Silva and CBS Sports' Rob Rang are at the bottom hitting on just four first round picks.

Christian Ponder was the biggest miss for nine of the 12 mock drafts. He went No. 12 to the Vikings when many mock drafts had him as a late first rounder.

So when you're looking at second round mock drafts, it may be wise to keep a close eye on Kiper and Mayock.
