Jets could use Tim Tebow as a running back this week

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan stated that Tim Tebow may play running back this weekend against the New England Patriots.

The Star-Ledger-US PRESSWIRE

The New York Jets could potentially use backup quarterback Tim Tebow as a running back in Week 7's game against the New England Patriots, according to head coach Rex Ryan. With running backs Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight injured, Ryan stated that Tebow could possibly play some downs in the backfield.

Through six games as a member of the Jets, Tebow has acted more prominently in a running role than a passing role. He is 2-3 on pass attempts for a total of 32 yards (with the longest coming on a 23-yard completion), compared to 18 rushing attempts for 64 yards.

Rich Cimini of ESPN New York believes Tebow will play running back against New England because the team opted not to sign a free agent running back this week to replace McKnight or Powell.

Sunday's game is scheduled to start at 4:25 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on CBS.
