Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller has been named the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press.
Miller was the No. 2 overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft, meaning that, along with Cam Newton, the No. 1 and No. 2 overall selections took home the offensive and defensive rookie awards.
Miller had 11.5 sacks on the season and 10.5 of them in the first 11 games before a broken right thumb curtailed his production. The Broncos defense seemed to slow down as Miller's abilities dropped due to injury. Ultimately, the Broncos made the playoffs and Miller was considered the centerpiece of a defense that led them there.
After receiving the award, Miller said "I have a whole lot of room to get better. I need to cut down on the all the mental errors, coach Smith will coach me hard I'm sure."
