Aiming to replace recently fired general manager Mike Tannenbaum, the New York Jets have scheduled an interview with former Cleveland Browns GM Tom Heckert.
Heckert, who along with Browns head coach Pat Shurmur was fired by the Browns at the end of the 2012 season after a 5-11 campaign, is also attracting strong interest from an unnamed team, according to The Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot, who also reported the scheduled meeting between Heckert and the Jets.
The Jets parted ways with Tannenbaum after seven seasons, in which the team went 57-55 and reached two AFC Championship Games. But the 2012 season ended poorly, with the Jets finishing 6-10 and in last place in the AFC East.
In their search for Tannenbaum's replacement, the Jets are also reportedly targeting San Francisco 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble and the New York Giants' director of college scouting, Marc Ross. Gamble has been reportedly been named the Jets' top target.
