Christian Ponder injury: Vikings QB questionable for Week 11 vs. Seahawks

Ponder has not been ruled out for Week 11 after dislocating his shoulder Thursday. If he can't play, however, Vikings coaches haven't decided whether Matt Cassel or Josh Freeman will start.

Christian Ponder has not been ruled out for Week 11 when the Minnesota Vikings play the Seattle Seahawks. Ponder suffered a dislocated shoulder during Thursday night's win over the Washington Redskins, but head coach Leslie Frazier said Friday that Ponder may be able to suit up if he returns to practice by Thursday, Nov. 17, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Frazier did not say who would start in Ponder's place if the quarterback is forced to sit. Matt Cassel took over for Ponder on Thursday and played well, but the team could also opt to play Josh Freeman, who will have spent over six weeks in the Vikings' system by the time the Vikings and Seahawks kicks off.

The implication of Frazier's comments is that Ponder is still the Vikings' starter if healthy. He entered Thursday's kickoff with a tenuous grasp on the position, but acquitted himself well. Ponder started poorly, throwing an interception on his second pass of the game, but rallied back and finished 17 for 21 for 174 yards and two touchdowns in addition to his pick.

Cassel played well after Ponder left late in the third quarter, going 4 for 6 passing for 47 yards and leading the Vikings on two long field goal drives. The Vikings were intrigued enough to sign Freeman as a free agent, however, and may opt to kick the tires once again on their acquisition, especially with a postseason berth all but ruled out this season.
