Kaluka Maiava injury: Raiders LB placed on injured reserve

Linebacker Kaluka Maiava is done for the year after an injury-plagued debut season with the Raiders.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Oakland Raiders linebacker Kaluka Maiava has been placed on injured reserve, ending his season, Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times reports. According to Raiders blog Silver And Black Pride, Maiava had been dealing with ribs and calf injuries for some time. Maiava missed four of the Raiders' 12 games played so far and had seemingly been growing frustrated with the recovery process recently.

Maiava signed with the Raiders during the 2013 offseason after spending four seasons with the Cleveland Browns. After signing a three-year, $6 million contract with the team, he was expected to be a regular contributor as a reserve inside linebacker, but he finished with just 17 total tackles on the season. The poor production came off arguably the best season of his career. Maiava had 53 tackles and two sacks in 16 games played with the Browns last year.

According to Levi Damien at Silver And Black Pride, there is no word yet on who will replace Maiava on the Raiders' active roster. Maiava may not be the only Raiders player to be heading to IR soon. There are five players marked as "Out" this weekend on the team's official injury report.
