2013 NFL Draft grades: Sizing up the NFC South

How did the NFC South do on Day 3 of the draft?

Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports

With the 2013 NFL Draft in the books, let's take a look at how the teams did in the final four rounds. Most of the names below will probably never be heard from again, but it's still interesting to see whether teams got the best bang for their buck. We'll be going through the NFC South in this post, with the help of Jason Chilton's Day 3 grades at CBS Sports and SB Nation's Matthew Fairburn, who was covering the draft at Radio City Music Hall.

NFC South

Atlanta Falcons: The Falcons weren't able to trade up in the fourth round and settled on DE Malliciah Goodman, who Chilton says "adds depth even if his ability to bring the heat can be questioned." TE Levine Toilolo got a B as a possible successor to Tony Gonzalez. Atlanta continued to address defensive line depth in the fifth, grabbing DE Stansly Maponga and a B grade for their efforts. They doubled up on safeties in the seventh with Kemal Ishmael and Zeke Motta. Both picks got a B and B+, respectively.

Carolina Panthers: The Panthers scored big in the early rounds with Star Lotulelei and Kawann Short, but they've made head-scratching decisions since then. OG Edmund Kugbila in the fourth got a D from Chilton, and 5th-rounder ILB A.J. Klein is considered a "poor man's Manti Te'o". He did give them a B+ for taking RB Kenjon Barner in the 6th despite an already crowded backfield.

New Orleans Saints: The Saints had to wait until the fifth round to pick on Day 3, and they chose WR Kenny Stills, which got a B+ from Chilton. He was less kind to sixth-round DE Rufus Johnson, however, giving them a D+ for the guy from tiny Tarleton State.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: With needs in the trenches, the Bucs doubled up on defensive linemen in the fourth -- DE Akeem Spence and DT William Gholston both got B grades. They made have drafted too many, though -- DE Steven Means in the fifth was panned by Chilton with a D grade.
