New Orleans got some bad injury news with Butler being put on the shelf for the season.

The New Orleans Saints have suffered their first big injury of the season, as linebacker Victor Butler tore his ACL in Tuesday's minicamp practice, according to Brian McIntyre.

Butler will be out for the season because of the serious knee injury. Butler came to the Saints after spending the first four years of his career with the Dallas Cowboys. His most productive season was 2012, when he accumulated 25 tackles.

For most of his career, Butler has played a reserve role. In four seasons, Butler amassed 89 tackles and 11 sacks. The former fourth-round pick from Oregon State was the last of Dallas' 2009 draft picks to leave the team.

Butler earned a two-year contract with New Orleans this offseason, hoping to garner a starting spot. Now, Butler has a year of rehab ahead of him before he can come back onto the field next spring to show what he has.
