NFL news roundup: Darrelle Revis, RGIII should be ready for Week 1, Aaron Hernandez update and more

The Aaron Hernandez saga continues, while Darrelle Revis and Robert Griffin III should be ready for Week 1. Here are the big headlines on Friday afternoon.

USA TODAY Sports

An arrest warrant hasn't yet been issued for New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, but the investigation remains ongoing. Hernandez showed up at Gillette Stadium on Thursday, but team staff were waiting for him and told him to go home. It's unclear why Hernandez went to the stadium, as no coaches were there.

Police also obtained three new search warrants as they investigate the New England tight end's involvement in the murder of Odin Lloyd.

Darrelle Revis, Robert Griffin III should be ready by Week 1

NFL stars Darrelle Revis and Robert Griffin III are both ahead of schedule on their recoveries from ACL surgery. Revis believes he will be ready for the start of training camp, while Griffin has been allowed to simulate bootlegs and throw on the run while he continues to recuperate.

Both players are expected to be ready for the regular season.

Vladimir Putin wants to make it right with Robert Kraft

Russian President Vladimir Putin made off with Robert Kraft's Super Bowl ring several years ago in what may be the most bizarre revelation of the offseason. Putin is now offering to make amends ... sort of.

The Russian leader proposed building a replica ring to replace the one he apparently stole from Kraft. It won't be the real deal but, given who he's dealing with, Kraft would likely be wise to accept the offer.

Josh Freeman facing uncertainty in contract year with Buccaneers

Josh Freeman is entering a make-or-break year with the Tampa Bay Bucs. His contract expires after the 2013 season, and the team has been tepid in its commitment to him, drafting Mike Glennon in the third round this year.

The coaching staff has hinted that it's ready to move on, but Freeman has a chance to turn that around if he finds more consistency.

Dolphins pursuing Vonta Leach

The Miami Dolphins are reportedly pursuing fullback Vonta Leach, and head coach Joe Philbin wants a deal done by the end of week. Leach visited the Ravens last week and has been visiting with several teams, including his former team, the Houston Texans.

The Dolphins hope that Leach can improve their short-yardage running game.
