Rapper Shawn Knowles-Carter, better known as Jay-Z, is revealing the lyrics to his upcoming album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, and one of the songs directly references the NFLPA investigation into his recruitment of New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith.
In the song "La Familia", Jay-Z has a brief line about the ongoing investigation. He doesn't seem too concerned about the situation:
"NFL investigations/ Oh don't make me laugh /FBI investigation /We stood up to that"
The NFLPA is looking into Smith's agent, Kim Miale, for an alleged violation of the "runner rule" and whether or not Smith was swayed by meetings with Jay-Z. The media mogul is not a certified sports agent and isn't allowed to represent Smith in contract negotiations, among other things.
Smith signed with Roc Nation shortly after being selected by the Jets in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He is expected to compete with Mark Sanchez for the starting job in training camp.
