Dennis Pitta out for the year, according to report

Hip dislocation in practice sidelines the Baltimore Ravens' first-string tight end for the entire 2013 season.

Baltimore Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta has been ruled out for the 2013 season, according to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN. Pitta was carted off the field earlier on Saturday during practice and it was later discovered that he had dislocated his hip.

Pitta went into surgery almost immediately, and while initially expected to miss at least the 2013 season opener against the Denver Broncos, he will now miss the entire season.

Originally drafted by the Ravens in 2010, Pitta caught 61 passes for 669 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also played a big role in the Ravens' Super Bowl run, catching 14 passes for 163 yards with three touchdowns in the playoffs, including a touchdown in the Super Bowl.
