New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski was back in practice on Sunday in full uniform, according to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald. It's his first time practicing since starting training camp on the PUP list.
Gronkowski spent the offseason dealing with multiple surgeries on his forearm and back. He is still not expected to be ready for Week 1, but the Patriots seem confident in his recovery. They activated him from the PUP on Saturday, meaning he will not be forced to miss the first six weeks of the season. The Patriots also released Jake Ballard and Daniel Fells, so the team will go into the season with three tight ends on the roster.
Rookie Zach Sudfeld and Michael Hoomanawanui are the only healthy tight ends on the depth chart right now. Sudfeld is expected to get the start for the early part of the season while Gronkowski works his way back into football shape.
