2015 NFL Draft order: Jets win alters top five

New, comments

The order will change drastically over the next several weeks, but New York's win Sunday has a great impact on the draft.

Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Jets won on Sunday, creating a slight change in the 2015 NFL Draft order. Last week the Jets held the No. 3 pick. After beating the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday, the Jets moved down a spot to No. 4. That moved the Tampa Bay Buccaneers up to No. 3.

While the top of the draft could be in flux for the rest of the season, the move is significant. Both teams should be in the running to take the top quarterback in the draft.

Of course the Oakland Raiders, who hold the No. 1 pick, could try and trade out of the top spot to a team needing a quarterback. That could lure the Tennessee Titans, who have the No. 5 pick, into the mix for a deal. Would it be worth it to give up two first-round picks (including one in the 2016 draft) to take a quarterback? That’s question that will be asked a lot leading up to the draft.

Another notable this week is the Chicago Bears. Not only did they get pummeled 55-14 on Sunday night, the Bears fell a spot in the draft order from last week. The Bears are now slated to pick eighth after being in the seven hole last week.

How the order is established: If teams in the draft order have the same record, strength of schedule is used. If that is the same, division record is used if they’re in the same division. If those are all equal, conference record is used if they’re in the same conference. If teams in two difference conferences have the same record and strength of schedule, draft order is determined by a coin flip at the NFL Scouting Combine.
