Doug Marrone is leaving the Buffalo Bills and taking his $4 million 2015 salary with him. Marrone exercised an opt out clause in his contract Tuesday, a surprise move to many, including Buffalo players. Several Bills, both current and former, took to Twitter to respond to the news.
Here's a sampling of the reaction.
Bills owners:
Statement from the team:
"Doug Marrone informed me late today that he has decided to exercise the option clause in his contract and relinquish his responsibilities as our head coach.
"We are disappointed that Coach Marrone will no longer be an important part of our organization. We thank him for all of his hard work and leadership during his tenure and wish him and his family the best with the next chapter in their lives.
"We will now begin the important process of conducting a thorough search for a new head coach as we continue to strive to reach our goal of returning to the playoffs and bringing a championship to Buffalo for our fans."
Current players:

Other reaction:
I'm so confused about Marrone opting out. Either he has something else he's looking at or there were major problems in Buffalo.

I guess Doug Marrone really hates the thought of EJ Manuel as his QB.

I'll say this -- people I know within the Bills organization won't exactly be shedding tears over the departure of Saint Doug.

Whoever negotiated Marrone's contract should be sent an extra bottle of Champagne tonight.

I feel you, @NunesMagician. He did the same thing to 'Cuse and now the #Bills.
