Sure, joint preseason practices seem like a good idea. And it seems like a good idea to invite fans to take part in the experience. Fans from the Oakland Raiders and the Dallas Cowboys go together about as well as oil and water, but this is preseason football we're discussing. The atmosphere should be a bit lighter, a bit more relaxed, perhaps almost picnic-like as —
Ah.
The Cowboys and Raiders shared a practice field Tuesday, and invited roughly 8,000 fans to attend. At one point, Morris Claiborne laid a big hit on tight end Mychal Rivera, and things got a little out of control.
In the scrum, a Raiders fans took a swing at Cowboys cornerback B.W. Webb with a helmet, which didn't help matters.
After practice, Webb told USA Today that he didn't realize it was a fan when he turned and started shoving. He felt the helmet hit him and simply started swinging.
"That's definitely a dangerous situation," Webb said. "I don't know why fans would want to jump on this side of the fence. I don't think they'd like it too much on this side."
Seriously you guys, chill.
