Robert Griffin III out with left ankle injury

Robert Griffin III went down Sunday with a scary leg injury suffered without any contact. He will miss the rest of the game between Washington and Jacksonville.

Robert Griffin III went down with a non-contact left ankle injury during Sunday's game between Washington and the Jacksonville Jaguars, and has been ruled out for the rest of the day. The quarterback was carted off the field and his leg was put in an air cast.

Update: RG3 suffered a dislocated ankle.

Griffin was rolling out on a bootleg, and tried to throw the ball away at the sideline. Just before the he threw the ball, he may have planted his left foot awkwardly:

Griffin had to be tended to on the sideline for several moments, and he remained completely immobile on the ground.. Coaches and teammates gathered around the quarterback.

Yahoo! Sports' Charles Robinson noted that an air cast was placed around Griffin's left ankle. As Griffin was taken off the field, he appeared to be in tears. He saluted the crowd on his way to the locker room.

Griffin has had an extensive history with leg injuries. He suffered a torn ACL in college and then again at the end of his rookie year. He struggled last season as tried to return before he was fully recovered.

Prior to leaving Sunday's game Griffin started well against a lowly Jaguars team, going 2-for-3 passing for 38 yards with 22 yards rushing on two carries.
