The NFL will call a penalty on Marshawn Lynch for grabbing his crotch during the Super Bowl

The NFL is serious about both balls-related scandals in the lead-up to the Super Bowl.

Marshawn Lynch likes grabbing his crotch when he scores touchdowns, and did so in the NFC Championship. The NFL likes fining Marshawn Lynch for grabbing his crotch. And now they want him to know that if he does so in the biggest game of the year, he could hurt his team in addition to his wallet:

NFL V.P. of Officiating Dean Blandino told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio that the Seahawks have been warned that if Lynch makes an obscene gesture at any time during Super Bowl XLIX, the Seahawks will be penalized 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Lynch typically goes for his groin after touchdowns, in which case the 15 yards would be assessed on the ensuing kickoff. Pro Football Talk says that the league was ready to penalize a crotch grab in the NFC Championship, but didn't notice the gesture.

The NFL really wants to crack down on "obscene gestures" -- they fined Lynch's teammate Chris Matthews for something that doesn't really seem to have been an obscene gesture at all. They also threatened to eject Lynch from the NFC Championship game if he wore gold cleats (he opted not to wear them.)
