The combine marks the unofficial start to the NFL's offseason, with representatives from all 32 teams converging on downtown Indianapolis this week to watch and evaluate more than 300 prospects over the next several days.

The combine began in 1982, serving basically as a way for clubs to get and share medical information on the top draft-eligible college players in a central location. As football scouting has evolved and the NFL has exploded in popularity over the past few decades, it has rapidly become one of the most important and hyped events on the league calendar. Nowadays, teams are represented not just by scouts, but also a variety of coaches and general managers.

Every team has a comprehensive plan for the combine, with specific position needs in mind and a list of prospects it will be watching closely. From the on-field drills to the measurements to the interviews, organizations leave no stone unturned as they try to gauge the physical skills, athleticism and mental acumen of players they potentially could draft this spring.

We should get some insight into the offseason strategies of each front office this week, as team officials hold numerous press conferences with reporters from Wednesday to Saturday. The schedule is jam-packed during the first two days, with teams addressing the media at 15- and 30-minute intervals from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET.
