NFL Combine results: Quarterbacks get measured

Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota got measured at the NFL Scouting Combine Thursday, along with the rest of the quarterback class.

The NFL Combine is in full swing and on Thursday, the group featuring quarterbacks, wide receivers and running backs got measured. Quarterbacks always dominate the NFL Draft headlines and while this year's class isn't exactly stellar, there isn't a consensus between the top two guys in Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston.

Well, if you happened to think Thursday's measurements would help bring some clarity to the battle, then you were sadly mistaken. Mariota and Winston both came in just under 6'4, while Winston weighed in at 231 pounds and Mariota at 222 pounds. When it comes to hand size, they're both just over 9 inches and they have identical arm length.

Much of the discussion in trying to figure out which of these two is better has focused on Winston's off-the-field issues and whether Mariota can handle a pro-style offense. There are concerns with Winston on the field, but he effectively ran such an offense at Florida State. Given the specific issues at play, actually throwing at the combine can't really hurt or help either of them.

Hand size is often considered an important measurement, though it's often only cited as a ding on a prospect if his hands are exceptionally small. Being unable to grip the football properly would have a pretty big impact on accuracy, after all. Still, Brett Hundley of UCLA and Jerry Lovelocke of Prairie View A&M should have no troubles, as they lead the way at 10 1/2.
