The 2016 NFL Draft will be held between April 28 and April 30, the NFL announced on Wednesday. The location of the draft has not yet been determined, which is going to be a big deal going forward given the changes made last year. Last year, the draft was held in Chicago, the first time the city had hosted the draft since 1964. New York City had been the host of the draft from 1965 to 2014.
NFL training camps for this coming season are set to get underway in late July, with the preseason set to begin on Aug. 9 with the Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio. The regular season will officially get underway when the New England Patriots host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 10.
Super Bowl 50 will take place on Feb. 22 in 2016, at which point the offseason begins proper. Feb. 22 is the first day clubs can designate franchise or transition players, with the next day signaling the start of the NFL Scouting Combine. On March 15, the 2016 league year and free agency period will open at 4 p.m. ET. At that point, there's a few days for offseason workout programs, but the next big date is the aforementioned NFL Draft beginning on April 28.
Provided the league sticks to the same formula, the first round will take place on Thursday, April 28. Then, Rounds 2-3 will be on Friday, April 29, while Rounds 4-7 will be held on Saturday, April 30.
