It's time for the 2016 Pro Bowl, which doesn't garner much excitement, but the NFL does make an effort to play up the pageantry of it all. That means the festivities kicked off with a strong national anthem performance. The NFL welcomed Marine Captain Skye Martin this season and her terrific rendition did not disappoint.
The Pro Bowl is the NFL's all-star game, so even though the league, players and fans all think it's a joke, it still carries a bit of prestige and the NFL has tried to capitalize on that. Last year, Grammy Award-winning artist and former American Idol winner Jordin Sparks sang the national anthem at the Pro Bowl in Glendale, Ariz. The Backstreet Boys, Jessica Simpson and Brian McKnight are among others who have performed the national anthem at the Pro Bowl.
Martin's performance on Sunday was a surprise that wasn't announced by the NFL and the league still hasn't said who will perform the national anthem at Super 50 next Sunday in Santa Clara, Calif. Coldplay has already been announced as a headliner for the Super Bowl halftime show. Beyoncé and Bruno Mars will reportedly play a part in the performance as well.
