Panthers punter introduces the slide-tackle to the NFL

Punters are football players, too. They can deliver bone-crunching hits just like everybody else on the field. Check out Carolina Panthers punter Andy Lee bringing the wood to obliterate New Orleans Saints return man Tommylee Lewis.

BOOM! That’s a touchdown-saving tackle.

No, Lee technically didn’t make physical contact with Lewis, but his hit-stick slide several feet in front of the returner made him shift his direction and lose his balance. HIT-STICK. And Lee got up and touched Lewis while his knee was still on the ground, allowing him to officially record the tackle on this play.
