The first position groups saw the field for actual workouts and drills on Friday at the 2016 NFL Combine. Offensive linemen and running backs both got to take part in the 40-yard dash, broad jump, vertical jump, 3-cone drill and shuttle drills. They also worked on other position-specific drills but those were not timed.
As far as the offensive linemen are concerned, the necessity for a strong broad jump or a fast time in the 40-yard dash is questionable at best. But athleticism is still important, and most of the guys in Indianapolis took part in all the drills available to them.
The bench press happened on Thursday, and saw Christian Westerman of Arizona State lead the way with a total of 34 reps of 225 pounds. That fell well short of the record of 45, but it was a good effort nonetheless. Laremy Tunsil, a consensus top-five pick, did not partake in the bench press. Connor McGovern, Stephane Nembot and Jason Spriggs all had more than 30 reps.
As far as the 40-yard dash goes, Spriggs was tops in that category, running a 4.94-second 40-yard dash. Most of the rest hovered in the 5.1-5.4 range, which is just fine for an offensive lineman. Below, we've got all of the results -- sans the vertical leap, which the NFL has not posted as of writing -- for offensive linemen and all the drills they took part in.
