John Elway isn't playing 'Moneyball,' he's just being cheap

Now the Broncos are reportedly balking at the going rate for Von Miller, the Super Bowl MVP and one of the league's premier pass rushers. Seriously???

Contract talks with Von Miller could get "messy." Charles Robinson at Yahoo! reports that the Broncos don't like the kind of deals being given to the top defensive players on the market, which could influence their negotiations with Von Miller. Okay, I understand trepidation about the contract Ndamukong Suh got last year or the one Olivier Vernon got this year, but this is Von Miller ... a VERY well established defensive superstar, a Super Bowl MVP.

I get not overpaying for risky players like Brock Osweiler or Colin Kaepernick, but the only risk Von Miller presents for the Broncos is playing someone else. I used to think John Elway was being cap savvy. Now, I just think he's being cheap.

BROWNS TRADING DOWN? "Something big will happen inside top 5." Lance Zierlein, citing an NFL team executive as a source, says the Browns are not locked in on a single player who would be available with the draft's No. 2 pick and would be willing to part with it to collect more picks. For all their faults when it comes to drafting players, the Browns have been very good at fleecing other teams trading up into the top 5 picks. Will it be the Eagles trading up into the top five?

HEADED TO THE SECOND CITY25 players will attended the 2016 NFL Draft in Chicago. Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliot will be there, and he plans to get a selfie with Roger Goodell ... who will probably suspend him for it.

NOT SO FAT EDDIE LACYEddie Lacy's undergoes 'remarkable' body transformation. That "China food" though.

BLOUNT IS BACKThe Patriots are excited about LeGarrette Blount! The New England Patriots announced the signing of running back LeGarrette Blount and the response was decidedly apathetic.

SAINTS LOCK DOWN A SAFETY: Saints pick up Kenny Vaccaro's fifth-year option. New Orleans has locked up the University of Texas product for the 2017 season after the organization exercised his contract option this afternoon. Vaccaro is the only first-round pick from the 2013 NFL Draft so far to have his fifth-year option picked up.

LAS VEGAS RAIDERS: Raiders owner Mark Davis to address state panel to discuss proposed Las Vegas stadium. You'll have a tough time finding anyone with a positive outlook on the Raiders' long-term prospects for staying in Oakland.
