The drama in the NFL Draft isn't just based around which players get selected at what spots. There's also a chess game going on between all 32 teams as they try to maneuver up and down the draft order based on their needs (or in some cases, simple whims).
It's been a while since we had a huge, blockbuster trade that shook up the top of the draft -- the last one was probably 2012, when Washington paid a king's ransom for the rights to draft Robert Griffin III. However, this year two teams didn't even wait until the draft started before making their earth-shattering moves. The Los Angeles Rams made a huge trade to move up from No. 15 to No. 1, putting them in position to draft the quarterback of their choice (either Jared Goff or Carson Wentz). Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles -- still fresh off moving from No. 13 to No. 8 -- gave the Cleveland Browns a pile of picks to get the No. 2 spot. Those two trades gave the draft plenty of intrigue heading into Thursday night, and there was even more to come.
The Tennessee Titans, Chicago Bears, Houston Texans and Denver Broncos all negotiated trades to move up in the first round and the San Francisco 49ers acquired another first-round pick by grabbing the No. 28 pick from the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a second-round pick and two third-day selections.
