Rosters were cut down to 75 players prior to the last week of preseason and, now that each team has finished the last of its exhibition schedule, it’s time to slice and dice the roster down to just 53 players.
That means about 700 roster hopefuls will instead turn in their playbook and leave, although nearly half of them are likely to get another chance.
Each team will be allowed to add 10 players to their practice squad, with as many as four of those players allowed to have two accrued seasons in the NFL. That means a little more experience on the practice squads and more time to develop and groom talent.
Still, Labor Day weekend will mark the end of the road for many. We’re keeping track of all the players who didn’t get a spot on the final 53-man rosters and were informed of their release:
