The New Orleans Saints host the Atlanta Falcons in an AFC South grudge match in the Superdome. The Saints' season is off to a rough start, while the Falcons are trying to build on their Week 2 win. This game could say a lot about the 2016 trajectories of both teams.
The Saints' defense was a tire fire last season, and things weren't any better in their Week 1 35-34 loss to the Oakland Raiders. In Week 2, they had the opposite problem — the defense actually did a pretty good job slowing down the New York Giants, but Drew Brees could only muster one touchdown pass and they lost, 16-13, on a last-second field goal. The offense should be much improved now that Brees is back in the friendly confines of the Superdome.
The Falcons lost a heartbreaker to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1 before rebounding with a 35-28 road win over the Raiders. The defense once again looks suspect, but at least Matt Ryan is playing better after a turnover-plagued 2015. Through two games, he's thrown for 730 yards and five touchdowns with just one interception, so perhaps he's back on track again. He should continue his hot streak against New Orleans' defense here.
With high-flying offenses and suspect defenses, there should be points aplenty in this one. ESPN is surely hoping for a more entertaining contest after lackluster Monday Night Football games in Weeks 1 and 2.
