Before the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots take the field for Super Bowl LI, a bunch of cute little furballs will be trying their paws at a miniature version of the game in the fourth annual Kitten Bowl.

Just like the Puppy Bowl, which will air at 3 p.m. ET on Animal Planet, all of the cuddly players in the Kitten Bowl are looking for new homes, with the event encouraging adoption from local shelters.

There are 10 “cat-tenders” playing in this year’s cute matchup that will also include adoption stories, a halftime show and a huddle cam. There will also be a 360° option for those with a virtual reality headset. Hosted by animal adoption advocate Beth Stern with former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason acting as the commissioner of the Feline Football League, this event is intended to be fun for the whole family.

"I love the Super Bowl, but for us the Super Bowl is really a full-day family event and we've always said that pets are part of the family," said Ed Georger, executive VP of advertising sales and digital media for Crown Media Family Networks. "It makes sense to have a family event, a day when people are home and watching TV throughout the day and earlier in the day the family can sit together and watch our version of the game, which is the Kitten Bowl."

Last year’s Kitten Bowl attracted almost 4 million viewers, which is a big reason that sponsors like Arm & Hammer, Subaru and PetSmart have teamed back up for this year’s game. Arm & Hammer is sponsoring the Most Valuable Kitten award, Subaru is is the sponsor of the "Slow Motion Kitten Cam", and retailer PetSmart sponsors the announcer area.

Don’t miss all the furry cuteness in the lead-up to the big game.
