New York Jets quarterback — actually, freshly re-signed Jets quarterback — Josh McCown will be with the team for at least another year. But when he got the terms of his new deal, ready to be signed, he was ... waiting to get some food at Chik-fil-A.
And rather than let the team and his agent wait for him to get what was presumably chicken (we have not, at this time, confirmed the meal ordered by McCown), he elected to go ahead and put his electronic signature on the contract, locking him in for another year, for a reported $10 million.
Not a bad haul, really. Some chicken, maybe a soda, and a $10 million contract for the 2018 season. McCown, always happy to share these kinds of things, posted this picture on Twitter:
No better time to sign a deal with @nyjets then waiting on some @ChickfilA

McCown seems more than happy to be back with the Jets, a team he has played surprisingly well for despite his status as a “journeyman” quarterback for the bulk of his NFL career. He completed 67.3 percent of his passes for 2,926 yards, 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions last season.
He’ll likely need to compete with Teddy Bridgewater, also on a one-year deal with the Jets, but if the timing of contract signing matters at all, McCown has a leg up.
