What an amazing week of disrespectful blocks, and it was only the first week of the season. I can’t believe the amount of finishes there were in my favorite sport in the world. I had to trim down the video to only six of my favorite, and they cover a wide spectrum of blocks.
- Colts guard Quenton Nelson, a rookie, was one of my favorite draft picks in the draft. He’s had his up and downs, but this trap block was too beautiful to not include. Trap is one of my favorite run plays because it sets up for this monster pancake block.
- The Jets offensive line dominated the Lions on Monday night en route to a big victory. Their dudes were finishing all over the place, none more than right guard Brian Winters. This is exactly what finish is about. You have someone blocked but want to make his life miserable, just for good measure.
- What’s better than a wide receiver hammering someone? Nothing. Here is Larry Fitzgerald just destroying a defensive end on a chip block. Both feet off the ground. Lovely.
- The baddest left tackle in the business is Washington’s Trent Williams. Trent has multiple knockdowns each week, and I wanted to highlight this one because he just spears this dude after the knockdown. Then he gets up and let’s the defensive back know he’s the one who finished him.
- The Rams’ offensive line started this season like it left off last season: dominating opponents. Here’s a play with a double knockdown. Left tackle Andrew Whitworth uses some hip toss power to drive his man in the ground, while the Rams right guard was driving his opponent 5 yards downfield and dumping him.
- Not much went well for the Browns on offense last weekend. However, this play was a success because of Tyrod Taylor’s legs and a block by left tackle Desmond Harrison. Harrison circles back and crushes this defensive end chasing him.
