Davis Payne Fired As St. Louis Blues Head Coach; Ken Hitchcock Hired

Davis Payne was fired as head coach of the St. Louis Blues on Sunday after a slow start to the season. Ken Hitchcock will take over effective immediately.

After a sluggish start to the season, the St. Louis Blues have fired head coach Davis Payne. The Blues are 6-7 on the season, and have fallen way behind in the Western Conference standings.

A corresponding move was also made, with the Blues announcing Ken Hitchcock as the new head coach on Sunday. Hitchcock agreed to a contract through the 2012-13 season and will take over effective immediately.

This season was Payne's second full year with the Blues after he took over during the 2009-10 season. Payne was named interim head coach after Andy Murray was fired mid-season before he was given the full head coaching title as the year came to a close. He was 61-48-15 in his tenure at the helm of the Blues.
