James Van Riemsdyk Trade Rumors: San Jose Sharks Reportedly Offer Antti Niemi, But Flyers Won't Budge

James van Riemsdyk has been generally underwhelming with the Philadelphia Flyers so far in his career, but his potential is still sky-high and general manager Paul Holmgren would certainly prefer to keep the forward. That doesn't mean teams aren't trying to pry him away, though.

Leading that charge on NHL Trade Deadline day 2012 are the San Jose Sharks, who are rumored to be extremely interested in the forward.

Darren Dreger also reports that the Sharks have offered up goaltender Antti Niemi for van Riemsdyk, but that the Flyers are still not interested in the deal. Of course, with starter Ilya Bryzgalov and backup Sergei Bobrovsky, the Flyers are paying more money to goaltenders than any other team in the NHL. It's also safe to say they're not getting the bang for their buck in that department.

Niemi would give Philadelphia some confidence in the crease, presumably, but Holmgren has no choice but to stick with his investment in Bryzgalov.
