The Pittsburgh Penguins have officially offered a contract to unrestricted free agent Shane Doan, according to his agent, speaking in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Agent Terry Bross told the paper that Doan has interest in the Pens, but it seems as though he's still waiting for the ownership situation in Phoenix to become more clear.
Bross told the Detroit Free Press -- the Red Wings are another team with an offer out for Doan, according to reports -- that "nothing's happening right now" with Doan and that he's still waiting "a couple more days" to see whether or not the sale of the Coyotes to a group led by Greg Jamison will go through.
Groups in Glendale, Ariz. are trying to hold up that deal by petitioning to get a referendum on the fall ballot, but so far those attempts have proven unsuccessful.
Phoenix is still definitely Doan's first choice. He's played his entire career for the organization and is the beloved captain there, but with the team's future in Arizona still fairly uncertain, Doan remains to keep his options open.
