The Dallas Stars have filled their need for a second line center, but they had to give up one of their best two-way players to do it. Steve Ott is heading to the Buffalo Sabres, along with fourth liner/reserve Adam Pardy, in exchange for Derek Roy.
Dallas dealt Mike Ribeiro at the 2012 NHL Draft for Cody Eakin and a second round pick, and though he certainly didn't have the same kind of production last season, Roy will replace some of Ribeiro's offense. Roy is entering the last year of his contract, and saw his production dip last season.
The Sabres have plenty of skill, but before this trade, they were lacking in forwards with Ott's qualities. He's either crafty or dirty, depending on who you ask. In any event, the Sabres will be happy to get a tough two-way forward who annoys opposition players in exchange for Roy.
