Phoenix Coyotes' free agent Shane Doan will be signing a new contract before Sept. 15, azcentral.com reported Friday. That is the date the current collective bargaining agreement expires, and it is unknown what the free agent market will look like after negotiations. Doan and his agent would like to sign before the rules potentially change.
"Shane is going to sign a contract before the CBA expires on the 15th," said Doan's agent, Terry Bross. "(Ownership has to) be done before the 15th, otherwise we're signing somewhere because we don't know what the new CBA is going to look like, and I don't know if it's going to limit any scope of contract, so we want to make sure we sign before then."
Doan amassed 50 points on 22 goals and 28 assists this past season with the Coyotes. He was also productive in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, with five goals in 16 games.
