P.K. Subban, Canadiens have made no progress on new deal

The Montreal Canadiens and restricted free agent P.K. Subban are struggling to find common ground in contract negotiations. As of this time no future meetings or discussions are scheduled.

The Montreal Canadiens and restricted free agent P.K. Subban have made no progress towards a new contract, according to Subban's agent Don Meehan as reported by Patrick Caisse of TVA Sports on Thursday afternoon.

As of this writing, Meehan stated that no future meetings or discussions are currently planned.

This remains consistent with reports from earlier in the week where it was portrayed that the two sides were struggling to find common ground in negotiating a new deal.

With the start of the regular season coming on Saturday, Subban's involvement in the opening part of the schedule is beginning to look less likely. As one of the Canadiens most popular (as well as talented) players, his absence will surely be felt in both a public relations sense and in on-ice performance.

Due to the condensed nature of this season, there is no deadline for restricted free agents to sign.
