Teemu Selanne leaves game after taking stick to face

Teemu Selanne had to exit Tuesday's game after taking Luke Schenn's stick to the face.

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Anaheim Ducks forward Teemu Selanne had to leave Tuesday's game in Philadelphia after he was hit in the face by Luke Schenn's stick and then fell to the ice.

The Ducks later announced that Selanne, 43, will not return to the game.

There was no penalty called on the play.

Selanne returned to the Ducks for one more year and so far has shown that he can still be a productive player even as he approaches his mid-40s. Entering Tuesday's game against the Flyers he had already scored three goals to go with four assists. He tallied 12 goals and 12 assists in 46 games last season.

He's been with the Ducks since the 2005-06 season and is still climbing the NHL's all-time leaderboards. His 678 goals currently place him 11th all-time while his 1,437 points are good enough for 15th.
