Bruins vs. Penguins: Shawn Thornton ejected for attacking Brooks Orpik

Things have gotten nasty in Boston.

Jared Wickerham

The aftermath of Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik's hit on Boston Bruins winger Loui Eriksson has been chaotic and violent, to say the least. Only minutes later, Bruins defenseman Shawn Thornton retaliated against Orpik, knocking him out with a punch to the head while he was down on the ice.

The incident occured during a stoppage in play. The two teams got into a scrum after this dirty play by James Neal on Brad Marchand.

During the disagreements, Thornton decided to pull Orpik aside and punish him in the dirtiest way possible.

Sickening. Thornton was immediately thrown out of the game, and Orpik was knocked out and had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher.

Elsewhere, Penguins forward James Neal was given a two-minute minor for his part in the shenanigans.

It's gotten ugly in Boston.
