Washington Capitals defenseman Tom Poti and goaltender Michal Neuvirth just did the hockey equivalent of that thing where two people at a stop sign each try to let the other person go ahead first, with disastrous results.
Oops! "I think there was mis-comunic-cation-down-there" indeed. I couldn't have put it better myself, though I could probably have said it in a less-weird way.
This awkward little moment came halfway through the first period, and allowed Toronto's James van Riemsdyk to score his first goal of the night, and probably one of the easiest goals of his career. The Washington Capitals have been struggling so far this season, with only two wins heading into Tuesday night's action, and plays like this aren't going to help improve their record. Poti and Neuvirth aren't on the same page, or even in the same book. In fact, from the looks of this play, I'm not even certain the two players have ever met.
