The Detroit Red Wings haven't beaten the arch-rival Chicago Blackhawks in their last five games. With a start like today's, and moments like the one were about the highlight, that doesn't appear likely to change.
With Detroit already trailing 2-0 on goals by Jeremy Morin and Brandon Saad, Jakub Kindl was looking to backhand a puck to the backboards and angle it over to his defense partner and away from the attacking forward. But he got a bit of a stick-check from Blackhawks forward Jimmy Hayes to his hands as he was about do so and... well, this happened.
Dave Bolland was credited with the goal to make it 3-0 Chicago in the first five minutes. The Red Wings have started to play better since the own goal, but this play certainly made the hole a deep one to climb out of in the opening minutes of the first period against the best team in the Western Conference.
