Devils trade: Steve Sullivan acquired from Coyotes

Over the past few years, Lou Lamoriello has brought back former New Jersey Devils for one more go-around with the team, such as Bobby Holik, Petr Sykora and Brendan Shanahan. Another one of those moves happens today.

New Jersey acquired winger Steve Sullivan from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick, likely not in this year's draft, as the Devils traded it to Winnipeg for another reacquisition, Alexei Ponikarovsky. Sullivan joins a team looking to put together goals to replace the still-injured Ilya Kovalchuk, and also one that his coming dangerously close to falling out of a playoff race. It is also the club where he started his career.

Lou Lamoriello drafted Sullivan with the 233rd overall pick in the ninth round of the 1994 NHL Draft. He spent time with New Jersey from 1995-1997, before being traded along with Alyn McCauley and Jason Smith to Toronto for Doug Gilmour and Dave Ellett. Sullivan has proven a decent complementary scorer throughout a journeyman career, which has seen stops in Toronto, Chicago, Nashville, Pittsburgh and Phoenix. His best season came in 2000-01 with the Blackhawks, scoring 34 goals and 75 points.

He now returns to the team that drafted him to try and keep them in a playoff race.
