The Montreal Canadiens did everything they could to try and turn their game against the Ottawa Senators into a rout, and it was only the skill of Ottawa's Craig Anderson that kept the game close.
Rene Bourque finally put the Canadiens on the board at the 13:09 mark of the second period with this beauty of a backhander:
Brendan Gallagher would get another one later for the Canadiens to give them the lead.
The story of the period, aside from the offensive pressure from Montreal, was the brutal and bloody injury suffered by Lars Eller. Eric Gryba was given a game misconduct on the play, so both teams are playing down a man.
Montreal was out-shooting the Senators 30-15 midway through the period, and ended the period leading in shots 41-19.
