Bruins vs. Penguins, Game 3: Gregory Campbell out for remainder of postseason

Boston Bruins forward Gregory Campbell sustained a broken leg during Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final on Wednesday night and is done for the rest of the postseason, the team announced Thursday morning. General manager Peter Chiarelli confirmed that Campbell had sustained a broken right fibula.

Initial word of the injury's diagnosis came according to a report by Joe McDonald of ESPN Boston early Thursday morning. It ultimately proved to be accurate.

The injury occurred during a Boston penalty kill near the midway mark of the second period when Campbell laid out to block a shot attempt from Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin. Campbell was clearly in a great deal of pain and labored to return to his feet. However, he remained in the play for nearly a full minute in an attempt to limit the space Pittsburgh had to work with.

Boston ultimately negated the disadvantage and Campbell was able to return to the bench. He would not take another shift in the game.
