Ryan Getzlaf injury: Ducks center exits game after blocking a shot

The injury casts his Olympics appearance in doubt.

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Bad news came down on Saturday for Anaheim Ducks and Team Canada fans alike when center Ryan Getzlaf suffered a lower-body injury and was forced to leave the game.

The injury occurred midway through the second period, when Getzlaf hobbled to the bench after blocking a shot from a Phoenix Coyotes player. Getzlaf didn't return to the ice in the third period, and Saku Koivu replaced him on the top line along with Corey Perry while fans waited for news.

When it came, it wasn't good.

The injury is ill-timed considering Getzlaf was set to suit up for Canada in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, in just a few short weeks. Fans, the Ducks and Team Canada can only hope that the center doesn't have to miss significant time.
